Applied Research & Methods (ARM) Group

The Applied Research & Methods Group is a core team of internal researchers at IPA dedicated to evidence generation and research innovation using the data gathered across hundreds of studies conducted by IPA every year.

The ARM Group includes the Path-to-Scale Research team, the Poverty Measurement team, and also conducts prospective research including research replication and embedded methodological experiments, and leads the Research Methods Initiative in collaboration with Northwestern University’s Global Poverty Research Lab (GPRL). The ARM Group’s overall research agenda emphasizes contribution to research infrastructure and policy impact first, academic publication second, while maintaining the highest standards of scientific rigor.

In addition to full-time research scientists, the ARM Group includes affiliated IPA staff and consultants who retain other roles at IPA while providing intellectual leadership on research projects and contribute to the ARM Group research agenda. With reach into more than 20 countries where IPA works, the ARM group aims to foster a strong pipeline of diverse researchers focused on applying social science to global problems of poverty.
