Globally, almost one-third of women report experiencing intimate partner violence (IPV) at some point in their lives.Nearly 40 percent of all homicides of women are committed by an intimate partner.Yet little is known about how to reduce IPV.On November 14, 2018, IPA hosted a breakfast and discussion on a joint IPV initiative with the International Rescue Committee (IRC).IPA Executive Director Annie Duflo introduced the program.Research lead Jeannie Annan (IRC, University of Chicago) provided an overview of this initiative and current work in Liberia and Uganda to identify and test methods for reducing IPV.

On November 8, IPA Kenya, in collaboration with the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics, held a launch event for Kenya's latest Poverty Probability Index (PPI®), an easy-to-use poverty measurement tool.PPIs are created by a statistical learning model that selects 10 questions from a country's own national survey data, which most strongly predict poverty in the country. Answers to these 10 questions are converted to individual household poverty likelihoods and group poverty rates.

On November 6, IPA and the CGIAR research program on Climate Change, Agriculture, and Food Security joined forces to bring together researchers, donors, and practitioners in a half-day research development workshop at the International Microinsurance Conference in Lusaka, Zambia.
