Shelby Carvalho is a postdoctoral fellow at Stanford University in the King Center on Global Development and is an affiliate of the Stanford Immigration Policy Lab and the Harvard Graduate School of Education Refugee REACH initiative. She received her PhD in Political Science from Harvard University. In fall 2027, she will join Boston University as an Assistant Professor of International Development. Dr. Carvalho's work focuses on the politics of education, particularly for children in crisis and conflict-affected settings. Her academic work draws on more than a decade of professional experience as a teacher and as a researcher with the World Bank, UN organizations, the Center for Global Development, among others.
