IPA's Peace and Recovery Program co-sponsored an in-person workshop hosted by the Gender and Adolescence: Global Evidence (GAGE) programme titled "Learning from GAGE Longitudinal Research: Adolescent Wellbeing in Cox’s Bazar," held on May 14th in Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh. GAGE is a decade-long (2016-2026) initiative that aims to generate evidence on effective strategies to improve the lives of adolescent girls and boys and accelerate social change.

During the event, presenters discussed insights from the Cox's Bazar Panel Survey (CBPS), a longitudinal mixed-methods project with Rohingya refugee and host community adolescents, conducted in partnership with Yale University, the World Bank, and GAGE. The event bolstered support for evidence-informed programming and policy on adolescent wellbeing. Through the workshop, organizers and presenters:

  • Disseminated research findings to international and national stakeholders, including policymakers, government officials, academics, INGO/NGO practitioners, donors, and youth researchers, exploring avenues to enhance evidence uptake.
  • Consulted with diverse stakeholders on research recommendations to strengthen policies and programs for Rohingya adolescents.
  • Advanced an adolescent agenda focusing on key priorities for Rohingya and Bangladeshi young people in Cox’s Bazar.

Workshop panelists included:

  • Dr Nicola Jones – Principal Research Fellow, ODI/ GAGE Director
  • Dr Khadija Mitu – GAGE Bangladesh / University of Chittagong
  • Prof Jennifer Seager, GWU/GAGE
  • Silvia Guglielmi, GAGE Researcher
  • Dr. Paula Lopez Pena, Y-RISE/Queen’s University

CBPS is in part funded by UK International Development, awarded through Innovation for Poverty Action's Peace & Recovery Program.

The main GAGE programme is funded by UK International Development and managed by ODI.
