On March 5, IPA Philippines together with researcher Emily Beam (University of Vermont) presented the comprehensive results of the Teacher Needs Assessment Study to the Department of Education (DepEd) officials. The presentation contained the results from the first and second round of data collection activities (Round 1: online survey; Round 2: online survey, phone survey, and qualitative interviews). Nassreena Sampaco-Baddiri (Country Director), Rene Marlon Panti (Senior Research Associate), and Karisha Anne Cruz (Policy Associate) led the presentation of the key results on distance learning modalities, access to technology, experience with technology, remote teaching skills, approaches to remote education, and teacher well-being. Emily Beam led the discussion of the key policy recommendations and future directions to improve quality of learning and student engagement. The results of this study will provide inputs on how DepEd can support teachers in improving the implementation of distance-learning this school year. The meeting was hosted by the DepEd Policy Research and Development Division and attended by the Undersecretary for Planning Service and Field Operations as well as directors of various bureaus and divisions of the Department.
