Inclusive Instant Payment Systems streamline transactions between individuals, merchants, and financial institutions by allowing clients across different financial service providers to send and receive money seamlessly. Despite growing global adoption, key questions remain: optimal pricing structures, merchant onboarding strategies, and effective governance models. To address these gaps, IPA launched the Instant Payments Systems (IPS) research initiative, which supports research across Asia and Sub-Saharan Africa. Through partnerships with central banks, commercial banks, mobile money operators, and fintechs, IPS uses surveys, administrative data, and randomized evaluations to understand how these systems can be designed for maximum uptake, impact, and economic benefit.
