This year's event has a theme of "Using Evaluations for Decision Making Towards Sustainable Development". It aims to provide a platform to policy makers and development practitioners to learn, share experiences and knowledge on emerging monitoring and evaluation (M&E) concerns. It also provides participants with an opportunity to reflect on achievements, opportunities and challenges facing M&E implementation and lessons learnt, for sustainable development.
Francis Meyo, Policy Coordinator for IPA Kenya, will be presenting on the Rural Electric Power Project (REPP) and how that informs the Kenyan Government’s Last Mile Connectivity Project to a gathering of major East African utilities providers and the Kenyan Ministry of Energy and Petroleum. The goal of the event is to hear from industry leaders and decision-makers to source innovative solutions to energy supply problems in Eastern Africa. Attendees will include government representatives, large power users, investors, and regulators.
IPA Kenya signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Kenyan Government’s Vision 2030 Program. Vision 2030 is an initiative of the Kenyan government that aims to transform Kenya into a newly industrializing, middle-income country by 2030 through economic, social, and political development.
Suleiman Asman (Country Director, IPA Kenya) presented on IPA's work in Kenya at an Impact Evaluation Training Workshop hosted by the African Population and Health Research Center (APHRC) and the World Bank’s Strategic Impact Evaluation Fund (SIEF) from May 5–8. The workshop was designed for faculty members, researchers, and graduate students from universities and research institutes interested in strengthening their skills in designing impact evaluations, analyzing the findings using the latest econometric methods, and teaching these methods to university students.
After signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the National Assessment Centre (NAC) of the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC), IPA Kenya began participating in the NAC steering committee. The objective of the NAC Steering Committee is to offer leadership and guidance to the NAC on potential topics for research, which partners to work with, and how to developed the institution's strategic focus. The Steering Committee includes representatives from donors, governmental organizations working with NAC, and local and international universities.
On January 19-21, 2012, Innovations for Poverty Action and Strathmore University hosted a three day workshop for approximately 20 African researchers on experimental research design in savings and payments. Participants traveled from 9 countries across Africa to participate in the Nairobi event, which was the first of a series of workshops to be conducted by IPA over the coming three years as part of the Savings and Payments Research Fund, under the Financial Inclusion Program.
