<p>Governments play a key role in combating pandemics, but the success of these efforts crucially depends on the actions taken by individuals.The more citizens trust the government and its law enforcement agencies, the more likely they are to trust the information the government provides during crisis events and comply with government directives.This trust may help reduce the rate of risky health behaviours.</p>

<p>This project studies whether a youth empowerment program in Bolivia can reduce the prevalence of violence against girls during the COVID-19 lockdown.The program offers training in soft skills and technical skills, sex education, mentoring, and job-finding assistance.To measure the effects of the program, the study conducts a randomized control trial with 600 vulnerable adolescents.Violence is measured with both direct self-report questions and list experiments. <p>The study tracked how the COVID-19 pandemic impacted Syrian-owned small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Turkey during 2020.Researchers used &nbsp;phone surveys to understand the business environment for refugee-owned firms during Covid-19 and to assess data quality collected via phone surveys.They found that 83 percent of SMEs that were operating in February (before the pandemic hit) were still operating in July, and this slightly increased to 88 percent by October 2020.Between July and October, the research team found that the percentage of business owners who reported lower sales decreased from approximately 70 to 50 percent.</p>
