This page lists research projects that are being developed by IPA and others. Our goal is to document active studies taking place on COVID-19’s socio-economic impacts—and results, as they come in—in order to inform researchers and decision-makers working to mitigate the crisis. As this is a public good, the hub contains both IPA and non-IPA studies. Inclusion criteria for the hub can be found here, and new projects and questionnaires can be submitted here.

Prevalence of COVID-19 Symptoms, Risk Factors, and Health Behaviors in Host and Refugee Communities in Cox’s Bazar: a Representative Panel Study

<p>This project is studying&nbsp;the prevalence of COVID-19 symptoms in refugee and host communities and their correlates with current and pre-COVID-19 living conditions.Researchers administered a phone-based survey to a sample of 909 households in Cox's Bazar which was drawn from a household panel representative of Rohingya refugees and the host population.Researchers&nbsp;conducted a symptoms checklist to assess COVID-19 risk based on the WHO guidelines.The survey&nbsp;included questions covering returning migration, employment, and food security, and asked additional questions on health knowledge and behaviors to a random subsample (n=460).</p>

Low-Cost, Automated WhatsApp Surveys to Understand Venezuelan Migration in Colombia

<p>In partnership with Mercy Corps, the Immigration Policy Lab is designing and implementing a novel low-cost, automated WhatsApp survey among Venezuelan migrants in Colombia.The survey will generate valuable descriptive data on indicators of household resilience and return migration in the context of a global pandemic.This WhatsApp survey method has been internally adopted by IPA as a potential tool for country offices’ use in remote survey implementation.The research team will also develop a publicly accessible technical manual and reproducible code so that other teams can leverage this novel method for implementing remote-surveys in the future.</p>

RECOVR Ghana: Tracking the Effects of the COVID-19 Pandemic

<p>Tracking how people’s lives are affected by the COVID-19 pandemic can enable policymakers to better understand the situation in their countries and make data-driven policy decisions.To respond to this need, IPA has developed the RECOVR survey—a panel survey that will facilitate comparisons, document real-time trends of policy concern, and inform decision-makers about the communities that are hardest-hit by the economic toll of the pandemic.&nbsp;In Ghana, the survey is providing rapid policy-relevant data to inform government policies regarding social protection for vulnerable households, remote education, and support for small businesses affected by shutdowns.</p>
