Bio Info

Vivian Hoffmann is a microeconomist whose primary research agenda concerns how markets and institutions in developing countries affect household access to health inputs, including safe food and water. Current work includes randomized trials investigating the impact of common food contaminants on child health, consumer demand for foods free of such contaminants, and producer responses to price incentives for safe food. Other ongoing projects assess how to cost-effectively provide safe water in rural communities. Prior to joining IFPRI in 2013, Vivian was an assistant professor at the University of Maryland, and received her PhD in Agricultural Economics from Cornell University.
