Tarek Ghani is an Associate Professor of Strategy at Washington University’s Olin Business School and a Nonresident Fellow at the Brookings Institution’s Global Economy and Development Program. His research examines frictions that affect private economic transactions and public sector capacity, with earlier work focused on developing countries and more recent projects in the United States. His research has been published in the American Economic Review, AEJ: Micro, AEJ: Policy, Management Science, and the Review of Economic Studies. From 2020 to 2021, he served as Chief Economist and Director of the Future of Conflict program at the International Crisis Group. He holds a PhD in Business & Public Policy from UC Berkeley’s Haas School of Business and a BS in Symbolic Systems from Stanford University.
