Pablo Ibarrarán is a social protection economist at the IDB. He joined the Social Protection and Health Division in March of 2012, after working for three years in the Office of Strategic Planning and Development Effectiveness, and for four years in the Office of Evaluation and Oversight at the Bank. He has designed and coordinated evaluations on topics relating to social protection and labor markets; and he has advised project teams on evaluations of projects in health, citizen security and urban development. His work has been published in the Journal of Labor Economics, the Journal of Development Effectiveness and the Journal of International Trade & Economic Development. 

A Mexican national, Pablo worked at the Secretaría de Hacienda y Crédito Público in his country after obtaining his degree in Economics from the Centro de Investigación y Docencia Económicas (CIDE) in 1998. In 2004, he earned his doctorate in Economics from the University of California, Berkeley.His research interests lie in the intersection of applied microeconometrics and the evaluation of development programs, with particular emphasis on labor markets and welfare. He is currently working on several evaluations using both experimental and non-experimental designs, and has active research on the interactions between conditional-cash transfer programs and labor markets in Latin America.
