London School of Economics
Mylene Lagarde is an Associate Professor of Health Economics and Deputy Head of Department (Research) in the Department of Health Policy at the London School of Economics. Having trained as an economist in France, Mylene's interest in health in low-income settings was triggered by the two-year experience she had in Cameroon as a health financing advisor in the Ministry of Health (2003-2004). Soon after, she joined the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine to start her academic career as a Research Fellow in Health Economics. She joined the LSE in September 2016.
In her research, Mylene uses applied economic analysis and a range of empirical methods to understand the drivers of individual decisions made by patients as well as providers, with a view to inform current health policy debates in low- and middle income countries. She is particularly interested in exploring the determinants of providers’ performance and the demand for healthcare services.
