Dr. Le Viet Phu joined the Fulbright Economics Teaching Program in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam in November 2014, where he conducts researches and gives lectures on topics related to environmental economics, applied econometrics, and environmental policy.
Dr. Phu’s main area of research includes climate change and impacts on the coupled natural-human system. He is currently working on various emerging environmental problems facing Vietnam such as the economic impact of groundwater extraction and sea level rises in the Mekong delta, and climate change in the Lower Mekong Basin.
Phu received his doctoral degree in environmental economics from the University of California at Berkeley in 2013. In his dissertation, he studied the impact of changing temperatures and extreme weather on crop yields and land-use change in the United States.
He obtained a master’s degree in development economics from the Australian National University in 2004, and a bachelor’s degree in economics from the Foreign Trade University in Hanoi in 2000.
