Laura Chioda is Chief Research Scientist at the Institute for Business and Social Impact (IBSI) at UC Berkeley's Haas School of Business. Her research combines frontier empirical methods and novel data sources with growing work on machine learning methods—including AI/ML credit scoring and LLM-based tools. She is currently principal investigator on several impact evaluations which study labor markets, skills formation, mental health, antisocial behavior, gender, and financial inclusion. She has established and led large research programs and complex initiatives, including the Lab for Inclusive Fintech and the Lab for Sustainable Financial Services and Innovation. She holds a Ph.D. in Economics from UC Berkeley, was an Assistant Professor of Economics at Princeton University, and previously served as a Senior Research Economist at the World Bank and Director of Research at the O'Donnell Center for Behavioral Economics.
