Professor of Pediatrics, Microbiology and Molecular Genetics
University of Vermont
Barry Finette, M.D., Ph.D., is a Professor of Pediatrics, Microbiology, and Molecular Genetics at the University of Vermont's Larner College of Medicine, Entrepreneur-in-Residence in its Office of the Vice President for Research, and the Founder and former CEO, Chief Medical and Scientific Officer of ThinkMD, a company whose mission is to defeat global health inequity by advancing ML-AI-enabled medical intelligence clinical decision support for frontline health providers. Clinically, his work has focused on primary care, hospital-based critical care and emergency medicine, and global health and humanitarian assistance. His early translational and basic science research centered on human somatic genetics, gene–environment interactions, and the genetic mechanisms involved in malignant transformation. He then transitioned to developing ML/AI-based, scalable tools that translate physician-level expertise into structured, evidence-driven assessments; since 2014, he has led the design, validation, and implementation of ThinkMD's mobile clinical intelligence platform across 10+ countries, strengthening primary care, triage, and risk assessment in low-resource settings through collaborations with NGOs, Ministries of Health and the private sector. As Entrepreneur-in-Residence, he leads the Codec initiative, an AI-native multi-agent platform designed to accelerate research, innovation, and entrepreneurship across the University of Vermont.
