The Network for Empowerment and Progressive Initiatives, formerly known as the National Ex-combatant Peace Building Initiatives, is a Liberian NGO and membership organization established in 2000 to address the difficult task of rehabilitating former fighters and reintegrating them into society. NEPI programs have reached more than 15,000 ex-combatants throughout Liberia. NEPI promotes peace and reconciliation principles as tools to effectively build, strengthen, and promote social change locally within communities and to shape policy decisions that recognize and support Liberia's most vulnerable populations. NEPI strategically and in concrete and meaningful ways initiatives and supports the healing of war trauma, encourages reconciliation between victims and perpetrators. NEPI also helps mitigate conflicts sparked by intra-community diversity along ethnic, traditional, religious, and socio-economic lines.
