The Catholic Justice and Peace Commission (JPC) is a Liberian NGO established by the Catholic Church in Liberia in 1991 in response to a century long history of widespread human rights abuses and injustices accentuated by the war which began in 1989. The JPC monitors and reports on human rights violations in Liberia; provides legal aid and coordinates the Human Rights Fact-Finding Documentation and Reporting Program; and works concretely for reconciliation in Liberia through its Conflict Resolution and Peacebuilding program, which include training, workshops, and the promotion of dialogue and tolerance at the local level, utilizing existing traditional mechanisms where possible.
