Banco Oportunidade de Moçambique (or BOM for short – which means good in Portuguese) was awarded a commercial banking license in March 2005 by the Central Bank of Mozambique, making it the newest microfinance bank in the Opportunity International Network. BOM is on schedule to start opening bank branches and operate as a microfinance bank from August 2005 in four cities: Maputo, Chimoio, Beira and Quellimane. BOM is currently offering access to small loans to over 2,000 poor Mozambicans and aims to offer access to microfinance services to many more.
