IPA Uganda Hosts Two-Generation Initiative Validation Workshop
IPA Uganda hosted a two-day residential workshop from 8th-9th February 2024 to validate the results of a policy and practice needs assessment that investigated the most pressing needs of refugee parents and their youngest children. This was part of the Two-Generation Policy and Research Initiative. The workshop was attended by key officials from the Government of Uganda, including Members of Parliament and officials from the Office of the Prime Minister, Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development, Ministry of Education and Sports, and the Uganda Police. Also in attendance were researchers and representatives from international NGOs, refugee-led organizations, and the private sector.
The discussions highlighted the need to further contextualize the Two-Generation model by addressing questions around the implications of Two-Generation programming for multi-generational households and reexamining existing approaches and beliefs. Participants also raised critical questions about the effectiveness of existing humanitarian interventions in refugee settings and how refugee voices are included in research, policy and programming. The results of the policy and practice needs assessment will inform future programming and policymaking, ensuring a more coordinated and effective approach to early childhood development.
