IPA Presents on Best Bets and Anti-Violence Interventions at the Sexual Violence Research Initiative 2024 Forum

On October 25, 2024, IPA disseminated research around intimate partner violence, including two of the Best Bets, at the Sexual Violence Research Initiative (SVRI) 2024 Forum in Cape Town, South Africa. Representatives of IPA's Policy and Intimate Partner Violence Initiative teams presented on the impact of counseling in Uganda as well as edutainment in Uganda, Tanzania, and Burkina Faso.

Also at the SVRI 2024 Forum, IPA’s Human Trafficking Research Initiative (HTRI), in partnership with the Freedom Fund, convened a participant-led panel on using randomized controlled trials to assess anti-violence interventions, with a focus on counter-trafficking. The session featured HTRI-funded researchers Yuki Lo (Freedom Fund), Sylvia Namakula (Healing and Resilience after Trauma), and Rachael Stemp (Anna Freud), alongside Casey Risko (U.S. Department of State’s Office to Monitor and Combat Trafficking in Persons), and was moderated by Valentina Farinelli, Senior Program Associate at HTRI. The panelists shared insights from their studies and explored broader themes, including the evolution of RCTs in the social sciences, ethical considerations in anti-violence research, and strategies for effective collaboration with implementing partners and donors.

Together, the sessions highlighted the role of evidence-driven approaches in shaping more effective, survivor-centered anti-violence interventions worldwide.
