On November 23, 2016, IPA Kenya participated in a stakeholders meeting for the WASH Benefits Project. IPA Kenya was represented by Suleiman Asman (Country Director), Ryan Mahoney, Betty Ojeny, John Mboya, Jared Otuke, and others. The event was attended by several stakeholders in the WASH sector, including the Director of Public Health and Sanitation, officials from county governments, KEMRI, Afya-plus, and the Safe Water and AIDS Project.

The forum was used to communicate status updates, share preliminary findings, highlight challenges and propose a way forward, and empower county governments and the national government to translate evidence into policy decisionmaking. IPA Kenya used the forum to give an overview of IPA’s role in WASH, as well as update and engage stakeholders on the project’s progress, gain feedback, acknowledge partners and collaborators, and discuss policy implications.

The WASH Benefits project has been ongoing in Kenya and Bangladesh since 2011. The project’s main objective is to generate rigorous evidence about the impact of sanitation, water quality, hygiene and nutrition interventions on child health and development in the first years of life (0-24 Months).
