IPA's strategy to reinforce our engagement with local researchers builds onto several initiatives.We have found that our internship and professional research up-skilling events and opportunities have been in high demand from both local stakeholders as well as our institutional partners in Francophone Africa particularly.On March 2nd, 2022, IPA’s research team in Burkina Faso held an impact evaluation research methods workshop at Université Norbert Zongo with thirty doctoral and master's students from their Economics Department. Feb 23 Webinar | The Cost of Sending Money in Nigeria: Insights from an Audit of Mobile Money and Mobile Banking Transactions How much does it cost to send money in Nigeria? It’s not an easy answer. IPA and Inclusion for All conducted an audit study to compare the actual costs of using digital financial services in Nigeria against providers’ officially stated prices and fees.Researchers find that in 38% of cases, customers receive inconsistent pricing information from customer care—worse still, in 12% of cases the customers receive no information.In addition to this, financial transactions conducted by phone failed often and the prices consumers paid sometimes exceeded caps set by the Central Bank of Nigeria. Feb 14 IPA Kenya Hosts and Participates in Review of National Women Economic Empowerment Policy From February 14-18, IPA Kenya participated in the final workshop to review the National Women Economic Empowerment Policy (NPWEE) at Sawela Lodges in Naivasha.The Policy aims at streamlining and strengthening coordination, partnership, and resource mobilization for women's economic empowerment.IPA Kenya made evidence-based suggestions to enrich the document around possible interventions to consider by reviewing rigorous evidence related to the topics like the unpaid care work which were included in the policy review and applied to the document.
