Position Summary

We are looking for undergraduate students in Economics, Government, and/or Political Science in their final semesters who have a strong interest and motivation to gain experience in economic development research, with excellent analytical, quantitative, organizational, and verbal and written communication skills. Research interns provide support, actively participate in collaborative research projects, and contribute to our work through a mix of research process activities, data collection, writing reports and presentations, and administrative tasks.  

This position offers an excellent opportunity to gain experience in field research and data collection on projects with a social focus. Regardless of the definition of daily tasks, interns can have exposure to all stages of the research cycle: research study design, data collection and processing, analysis and reporting of results. Interns will be constantly guided by a project research team from whom they will be able to learn.

Key areas of participation include: coordination and collaboration with the Associate and Research Manager, design of questionnaires for surveys, programming using different software, support in the training and management of the teams of interviewers; Cleaning and analysis of collected data and assistance in the writing of reports and presentations of the projects. In this position you will develop your analytical and management skills, in an environment of constant learning and innovation.

Responsibilities

  • Support the design of research studies by contributing to the literature review and the ideation of sampling strategies, data collection and contextualization of interventions;
  • Support the design and programming of surveys or measurement instruments
  • Support the supervision of fieldwork (data collection);
  • Participate in data quality protocol compliance review processes;
  • Support, attend, and document meetings with principal investigators and IPA staff to follow up on projects
  • Support the preparation of reports in English and Spanish.

Qualifications

Required

  • Be in the last semesters of undergraduate studies in Economics, Government, Administration, Finance, Engineering or related

Preferred

  • Experience conducting research (end-of-course projects or as a research assistant) and conducting data analysis;
  • Be part of a research program/incubator at your university
  • Have taken courses in impact evaluation or social or economic development programs;
  • Knowledge of a programming language;
  • Knowledge of qualitative research methodologies will be an asset;
  • Be part of volunteer programs or initiatives focused on action against poverty.

Las y los practicantes de investigación brindan apoyo, participan activamente en proyectos de investigación colaborativos y contribuyen a nuestro trabajo a través de una mezcla de actividades del proceso de investigación, recolección de datos, escritura de informes y presentaciones, y tareas administrativas.  

Esta posición ofrece una excelente oportunidad para adquirir experiencia en investigación de campo y recolección de datos en proyectos con enfoque social. Sin importar la definición de las tareas diarias las y los pasantes pueden tener exposición a todas las etapas del ciclo de investigación: diseño del estudio de investigación, recolección y procesamiento de datos, análisis y reporte de resultados. Los y las pasantes serán guiados constantemente por un equipo de investigación de proyectos del cual podrán aprender.

Las áreas clave de participación incluyen: coordinación y colaboración con la/el Analista, Asociado y Gerente de Investigación, diseño de cuestionarios para encuestas, programación haciendo uso de diferentes softwares, el apoyo en la formación y gestión de los equipos de encuestadores; limpieza y análisis de datos recolectados y asistencia en la redacción de informes y presentaciones de los proyectos. En este puesto usted desarrollará sus habilidades analíticas y de gestión, en un entorno de constante aprendizaje e innovación.

Responsabilidades

●        Apoyar el diseño de estudios de investigación aportando a la revisión de literatura y a la ideación de estrategias de muestreo, recolección de datos y contextualización de intervenciones;

●        Apoyar el diseño y programación de encuestas o instrumentos de medición;

●        Apoyar la supervisión del trabajo de campo (recolección de datos);

●        Participar en los procesos de revisión del cumplimiento de los protocolos de calidad de datos;

●        Apoyar, asistir y documentar reuniones con investigadores principales, y el personal de IPA para hacer seguimiento a los proyectos;

●         Apoyar la elaboración de informes en inglés y español.

Calificaciones

Requerido

  • Estar cursando los últimos semestres de pregrado en Economía, Gobierno, Administración, Finanzas, Ingeniería o afines

Privilegiado

  • Experiencia realizando investigación (proyectos de fin de curso o como asistente de investigación) y llevando a cabo análisis de datos;
  • Formar parte de un programa/semillero de investigación en su universidad
  • Haber tomado cursos de evaluación de impacto o de programas sociales o relativos a desarrollo económico;
  • Conocimientos en algún lenguaje de programación;
  • Se valorará el conocimiento de metodologías de investigación cualitativa;
  • Formar parte de programas de voluntariado o iniciativas enfocadas a la acción contra la pobreza.
