IPA began conducting research in the Dominican Republic in 2006. Our work has focused mainly on building evidence in the sectors of Financial Inclusion and Entrepreneurship and Private Sector Development. Among IPA’s earliest work in the country, IPA partnered with ADOPEM to investigate whether a financial literacy training grounded in simple rules of thumb could improve the financial status of ProSoli recipients, a conditional cash transfer program. IPA also evaluated the impact of commitment savings accounts among ProSoli recipients.
More recently, from 2022 to 2024, IPA conducted a randomized evaluation of mangrove conservation workshops delivered through youth sports clubs to build community support for mangrove conservation. Since 2026, IPA has partnered with the Superintendencia de Bancos (SB) to test whether behavioral “nudge” messages can improve credit card repayment.
