Capacity-Building Workshop with MINEDU Education Lab, Peru
On December 15 and 16, IPA Peru and J-PAL LAC co-organized a capacity-building workshop in the framework of MINEDULab project, in Lima, Peru. MINEDULab is an innovation lab in education policy, established in partnership with the Peruvian Ministry Education (MINEDU) and financed by the project Strengthening Education Management (FORGE).
The training event is directed at monitoring and evaluation specialists as well as staff from implementing units at the Ministry of Education and will count with the participation of academics and J-PAL and IPA staff who will lead training sessions.
On the first day, J-PAL affiliate and Scientific Director of J-PAL LAC, Professor Francisco Gallego (Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile) gave an introductory lecture on “What do we know about what works in education and new areas of innovation?” Afterwards, Professor Manuel Barrón (Universidad del Pacífico) gave a lecture on the “Introduction to the Theory of Change” followed by two lectures by Francisco Gallego on “Randomized Evaluations: How to design them?” and “Threats to the validity of an experiment.” The theoretical sessions were followed by respective practical sessions led by J-PAL and IPA staff.
On the second day, during the morning, Professor Stanislao Maldonado (Universidad del Rosario) gave a lecture reviewing the methodology behind power calculations, as well as, three workshops on STATA. In the afternoon, IPA Peru Deputy Country Director, Juan Hernández-Agramonte presented on “Ethics and Impact Evaluation.” Dylan Ramshaw, IPA Country Director, closed the workshop with a lecture on “Research Project Management."
