Evaluating the Impact of Doodle Learning: an Adaptive Learning Platform in Belize

With IPA and the Belize Ministry of Education, Culture, Science, and Technology, this randomized evaluation measured the impact of an adaptive educational technology software to improve student learning. Facing implementation challenges, the platform modestly improved English scores for students with complete background information but had no impact on math scores. Active users improved math self-efficacy and technology access perceptions, but students criticized the platform’s usability and gender inequities in technology. Results suggest educational technology requires curriculum integration, teacher training, and equitable engagement.

Researchers are partnering with IPA to conduct a randomized evaluation to assess whether a secondary school in Belize with a science, technology, engineering, arts, and math (STEAM) curriculum improves students’ holistic learning experiences and cognitive skills development.
