Gregory Lane is an Assistant Professor at the University of Chicago's Harris School of Public Policy. He is a development economist whose research examines barriers facing households, workers, and small firms in low- and middle-income countries and the policies designed to address them. His research focuses on climate adaptation in agriculture and informal labor markets. He is a Faculty Research Fellow at the National Bureau of Economic Research and an affiliate of BREAD and J-PAL.

His research on climate adaptation examines why farmers remain exposed to extreme weather and which tools and policies can build resilience. His work on informal labor markets examines the value of work, access to employment, and factors associated with worker productivity. He conducts large-scale randomized evaluations in partnership with governments, international organizations, and private firms. He received his PhD in Agricultural and Resource Economics from the University of California, Berkeley, in 2019.
