Prof. Hasan Mahmud Reza has a solid experience of research and teaching for more than 23 years in reputed universities and institutes in Bangladesh, Japan, and Singapore. He completed his BPharm and MPharm degrees from the University of Dhaka. In 1997, he joined Khulna University as a Lecturer. Dr. Reza obtained his PhD in molecular and developmental biology from the Nara Institute of Science and Technology (NAIST), Japan in 2002. His doctoral study mainly focused on eye development. He revealed important roles of several transcription factor genes such as Pax6, Sox2, and L-Maf in lens and retina development. His study involved extensive work on different cell lines as well as animal models including mice, rats, rabbits, and chicks. Later he worked as a Postdoctoral Researcher before joining the Faculty of Biological Sciences, NAIST, Japan as an Assistant Professor in 2004. In 2007, Dr. Reza joined North South University (NSU) and currently he is working as a Professor in the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, NSU.

Dr. Hasan Mahmud Reza worked as a Research Scientist at Singapore Eye Research Institute under National University of Singapore and gained experience in translational medicine. He characterized a novel umbilical tissue-derived epithelial stem cell which was shown to reconstruct cornea in an experimental rabbit model. Dr. Reza is currently leading several research teams studying pharmaceutical dosage form development, behavioral neuroscience, natural products, antimicrobial resistance, and lifestyle diseases like hypertension and obesity. He has published nearly 100 research articles in peer-reviewed journals. Dr. Reza is the current Dean of the School of Health and Life Sciences at NSU. He also serves as a member of multiple national-level scientific committees. Dr. Reza is the Founding President of the Bangladesh Neuroscience Society (BNSS).
