Boosting Math with JADENKÄ
IPA and the IDB evaluated Panama's JADENKÄ ethnomathematics program for preschool students in the Ngäbe-Buglé region. Incorporating local cultural math concepts, the program significantly improved both mathematical and ethnomathematical skills, particularly for indigenous students. It is now expanding to more Panamanian schools, broadening its impact.
COVID Impact on Education
IPA and the IDB surveyed 62,837 caregivers in Colombia, Costa Rica, El Salvador, and Peru, revealing the impacts of COVID-19 on distance education and mental health. Key findings influenced government policies to prioritize socioemotional health in educational initiatives, addressing the exacerbated inequalities and mental health challenges among children and caregivers.
Parental Engagement in Early Childhood Education during COVID
IPA, the IDB and Ministries of Education conducted another survey on pandemic-era learning at home using resources supplied by educational ministries. The note presents data (disaggregated by socioeconomic group and geographic location) on the use of learning resources, including asynchronous and synchronous lessons, teachers communicating with parents, by text or WhatsApp messages, phone or video calls, as well as printed materials.
