Mindspark is an adaptive learning platform offering personalized educational experiences, enabling students in India to learn at the right level and at their own pace. Developed by Educational Initiatives (Ei) to complement traditional teaching, it addresses gaps in the education system that acutely affect socio-economically disadvantaged children. While Mindspark has shown significant potential to improve learning outcomes, ensuring active teacher engagement with the platform remains a key challenge.
To address this issue, IPA helped Ei identify and test approaches to enhancing teacher engagement with Mindspark. IPA applied a behavioral analysis approach that mapped, analyzed, and prioritized the behavioral barriers to teacher engagement. Ei and IPA then considered innovative solutions to these barriers and developed plans to test them.
The engagement provided Ei with actionable insights and tools to address behavioral barriers in teachers’ use of Mindspark. Using the B-COM model of behavior change, Ei was able to identify behavioral barriers related to teacher capability and motivation.
Once identified, IPA facilitated a process to analyze and prioritize these barriers and then develop potential solutions. Prioritized solutions included developing how-to-guides to address a lack of procedural knowledge, and using WhatsApp messages to share information on student and class progress with teachers. For each solution, approaches to user research were considered to provide guidance on when and how to use prototypes, focus groups, surveys, and A/B tests to assess and iterate on the solutions.
By grounding in behavioral theories to address challenges in optimizing Mindspark, Ei is equipped to test and implement scalable solutions that can ensure teachers use Mindspark to enhance student outcomes.
