Innovations for Poverty Action (IPA) seeks a qualified applicant for the position of Operations Manager for IPA-Kenya (IPAK) in Busia, Kenya.  This position provides an excellent opportunity to gain extensive hands‐on experience in a field setting, and to have significant management responsibility in a young, vibrant organization undertaking cutting‐edge development research. The position reports to the Program Manager.  

Job Description:

The Operations Manager will work with the Program Manager to further develop, update, and implement organizational policies and systems in the areas of finance, logistics, procurement, human resources, and data management. Together with the Program Manager, the Operations Manager will help to facilitate inter‐project communication and cooperation, both on the ground in Busia and with Principal Investigators and the IPA headquarters in the US. The Operations Manager will also work closely with other members of the management team to help build computing, record‐keeping, and other organizational skills, and to orient new expatriate staff.

Desired Qualifications and Experience:

  • Interest in NGO management, international development, and organizational development
  • At least one year work experience in a developing country
  • Exceptional analytical and organizational skills, and attention to detail
  • Flexibility, self‐motivation, an ability to manage multiple tasks
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in cross‐cultural environments and relatively basic living conditions
  • Knowledge of issues relevant to development intervention and project evaluation
  • Experience and knowledge with financial management and budgeting
  • Master's degree in International Development, Management, Public Policy, Economics, or related field preferred
  • Knowledge of and experience with randomized evaluations of social programs preferred
  • Experience with grant management and donor reporting preferred
