IPA Executive Director Annie Duflo Meets with Local Scholars in Côte d'Ivoire

On May 13, 2022, IPA Executive Director Annie Duflo met with early career scholars at the African School of Economics (ASE) campus in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire to discuss their respective research projects and common goals.

Dr. Bassirou Chitou, National Executive Director of ASE-Abidjan, delivered the opening remarks. Following a brief introduction by IPA Francophone West Africa Country Director, Andreas Holzinger, four students presented their research project on the use and yield of improved seeds. Additionally, several faculty members presented on their study of the impact of COVID-19 on the clothing and catering sectors in Côte d’Ivoire and Burkina Faso. Students were involved in the data collection process for this project, from designing the questionnaire to collecting field data.

Following the presentations, Duflo and her team from IPA spoke with these scholars on their projects, impact evaluations, data collection techniques, and IPA’s education projects in Côte d’Ivoire. Duflo noted the importance of building a network of researchers at the local level.
